French fried onions recipe. Delicious and easy homemade fried onions to top your green bean casserole dish.

Although I love French’s crispy fried onions, this year they were sold out! Bringing my green bean casserole to a crashing halt, until I started to think about it.
It’s really just fried onions. Why am I not making this on my own?

After the initial panic of the thought of having to go to multiple stores during the holiday rush, we took a breather in the deli section and looped back to produce for another onion.
Since then we’ve made our own. It’s fast, easy and delicious! and I hope you like them as much as my family does.
FRENCH FRIED ONIONS RECIPE
- 1 medium onion
- Oil for frying
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup flour
- ½ tsp cayenne pepper
- ½ tsp paprika
- Salt and pepper
SLICE YOUR ONION
Start by thinly slicing your onion.
Soak in 1 cup of milk.
Over medium heat, bring ¼ cup oil to a sizzle.
In a separate bowl add flour, cayenne pepper and paprika.

FRY YOUR ONION
Coat your soaked onions in the flour mixture.
Doing a small batch at a time, fry your onions till light brown. About 2-3 minutes.
Place on paper towel and season with salt and pepper.

This was the perfect homemade topping for our green bean casserole. That is, once I was able to stop eating the fried onions!
