We normally don’t buy croissants from the bakery. Even though they are delicious, the kids devour everything in about 4 seconds. So when I started packing these for easy camping breakfast sandwiches, it was an instant hit.
You can make these ham and cheese croissants a few different ways while you’re camping, and in this post we’ll talk about how we enjoy them on both gorgeous sunny days and rainy days that try to keep us from getting out.
EASY CAMPING BREAKFAST SANDWICH
Ham and cheese croissant- Ingredients
- 4 Croissants
- 8 Slices of Swiss cheese
- Deli ham
- Honey mustard
- Mayonnaise
SLICE THE CROSSIANTS
Slice the croissants lengthwise and spread honey mustard on one side of the croissant and mayonnaise on the other.
Add Swiss cheese (or your favorite kind) to each slice of the bread. Add the deli ham. We like to start with two slices of ham for each sandwich and add from there.
Close up the croissant so that the ham is sandwiched between the two slices of cheese.

HOW TO HEAT A CAMPING BREAKFAST SANDWICH
Around the fire- If you’re sticking around the campsite then these ham and cheese croissants are delicious warmed up using the campfire.
Wrap each croissant individually in tin foil and place over indirect heat around the campfire. Heat through approximately 4-6 minutes, just long enough for the cheese to melt.
Pull off tin foil packets using tongs or heat safe gloves. Allow tin foil to cool before enjoying your camping breakfast sandwich.

On the go- If you’re on the go then these camping breakfast sandwiches work great warmed up in the microwave, if you have one in your camper. Once you have your sandwich assembled, place on a microwave safe plate and heat up a little at a time until the cheese is melted.
For our small microwave 40 second was perfect for melted cheese.
Wrap in a paper towel and enjoy on the go or wrap sandwich in a paper towel and tin foil to keep warm on the go.
Cold breakfast croissant- Too busy for a fire and a microwave isn’t an option? No problem, enjoy these sandwiches cold! Of course the warm gooey cheese is delicious, but this is camping. So let’s make due with a cold sandwich and go out and find some cool things to explore.

Make Ahead- Assemble these breakfast sandwiches at home and wrap them individually in tin foil. Store in refrigerator until ready to heat through on the campfire over indirect heat. These keep well for up to 3 days in the refrigerator.
The last time we made these camping breakfast sandwiches, the weather was not cooperating. It had rained all night and was threatened to at least drizzle all day.
So instead of eating breakfast in a camper we decided to warm these sandwiches in the microwave and take them to go. We drove down a little dirt road at one of our favorite state parks and enjoyed these ham and cheese croissants in a small cabin overlooking the valley.

Of course since it was drizzling and in the month of March, it was a little colder than we anticipated. But with a gorgeous view, a nice cup of coffee, our kids and our 11 year old puppy by our side, you really can’t go wrong.
Happy Camping!
