Pizza dough recipe

This family has fallen in love with pizza on the grill! To go with mom’s pizza night, we needed an easy delicious sauce and dough recipe.

At first I thought we’d use the pre made pizza rounds or store bought dough you can find in the refrigerator section. But those left us craving real pizza!

Fast forward a few years and we now make pizza dough from scratch almost on a weekly basis. And before you think it’s out of your comfort zone, it’s really more about time management than anything else.

This soft chewy dough is perfect for the oven or for taking it to the backyard to throw on the grill. Add a little garlic butter for dipping and this too will become a weekly staple for your family meal plan.

PIZZA ACCESSORIES TO MAKE YOUR LIFE EASIER

When we first started making pizza all I had was a pizza stone. It was a great start to our pizza night collection and one I can’t image making pizza without.

The pizza peel is a lifesaver when trying to transfer the round pizza dough to the oven. (bonus I hang my wood pizza peel on the wall for decoration when not in use) With a little flour on the peel it slips right off onto the warm pizza stone to cook.

And lastly we have the pizza cutter. This little gadget makes slicing this bad boy into 8 slices so easy, and when the kids ask for half a slice more, it’s easy to make the smaller slices for them.

CAN I FREEZE THIS PIZZA DOUGH

We sure have! Make the pizza dough the same way and place in a ziplock back. Store in the freezer for up to 3 months. Once ready to use place in the refrigerator overnight. The next day place on the counter 4 hours prior to use. This way has made for a sticker dough, so I like to place a bit more flour out before shaping them into round pizzas.

PLANNING AHEAD

Since the pizza dough does take about an hour and a half to rise, this meal does need to be planned in advance and timed out. What I do is start this pizza dough at 2:30 in the afternoon right before I the pick the girls up from school. By the time we’re ready to start making dinner around 4:00pm this dough is ready to go.

Another option is to make this recipe ahead and pop it in a gallon ziplock bag in the refrigerator for 24-48 hours. Be sure to take it out about 3 hours prior to cooking to allow the dough to rise.
