Beer brats recipe. Easy 30 minute beer brats recipe. Plus two ways to cook them for the best beer flavor.

With the changing of the seasons comes the changing of the weekly menu. All winter long it’s heavy this and soups that. Now that the weather is getting nice, it’s time for our summer favorites.
Dust off those grills, pick up those watermelons and don’t forget the suntan lotion for the pool, because it’s time to summer!

One summer classic is beer brats. It just screams summer! I’d like to tell you I also dusted off our grill for this beer brat recipe, but that’s just not true. We grill pizza all year round. Ok, it doesn’t usually snow here, but it still gets cold!
BEER BRATS RECIPE
Ingredients
- 2- packages Bratwurst
- 3- lager or stout or brown ale beers
- 1 TBS butter
- ½ onion
- 1 TBS brown sugar
- dash of red pepper flakes (optional)

BEST BEER
For this dinner we went with a porter that gave a really nice flavor. You can also use a lager, stout, brown ale, or something you’ll enjoy with your brat that’s heavier on the flavor profile.
I wouldn’t recommend IPA’s as they can be a bit bitter.
HOW TO COOK BEER BRATS
Start by adding butter and onions to the pan. Bring three bottles of beer to a boil and reduce to a simmer. Add your brats. The brats should be close to fully coved with beer.

Add a couple of dashes of red pepper flakes and 1 tablespoons of brown sugar. Simmer for 10-12 minutes, until fully cooked.
*You man need to cook in batches to not overcrowd the pan.
While the brats are cooking start your grill. Remove brats and place on grill over medium high heat. Continue to cook your beer mixture on a light simmer for an additional 5 minutes. You can use this mixture as a dipping sauce.
Once the brats are golden brown they are ready to eat!
COOK BRATS BACKWARDS
Now because we had the question is it better to grill first or simmer first, we tried both ways.
For this beer brat recipe, fully cook the brats on the grill.

While they are cooking bring three bottles of beer to a boil and reduce to a simmer. Add a couple of dashes of red pepper flakes and tablespoons of brown sugar.
Add the fully cooked brats to the beer mixture and simmer for 10-12 minutes.
Both ways came out delicious but I have to say, grilling them first and then allowing them to simmer made for a more juicy, flavorful brat.
